❓ What Is An Internal Name?

An Internal Name is a nickname you assign to a product to make it easier to identify within SellerLegend. It helps you avoid memorizing cryptic ASINs or SKUs by giving your product a name that’s meaningful to you.

πŸ“Œ Key Points:

  • πŸ†“ Optional β€” Use Internal Names only if your SKUs aren’t descriptive.

  • 🧩 Flexible β€” Assign names to some or all of your products.

  • πŸ“ Free format β€” Any text, any length (but short names are best).

  • πŸ‘οΈ Always visible β€” Appears on all screens where the product is shown.

  • πŸ” Instant updates β€” Edits reflect immediately across the platform.

🧠 When Should I Use Internal Names?

Use them if:

  • πŸ”£ Your SKUs are inconsistent or hard to decode.

  • 🧾 You manage many products with similar identifiers.

  • πŸ“š You want clearer context in reports and dashboards.

  • πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» Your team needs product names that are intuitive at a glance.

Skip them if your SKUs already clearly identify each product.

πŸ› οΈ How To Assign Internal Names

You can assign Internal Names in two ways:

βœ… Method 1: Using The Products Screen (Recommended)

This is the quickest and most intuitive method.

  1. 🧭 Navigate to:
Main Menu ➜ Products and Inventory ➜ Products List

  2. πŸ” Use the Omni-Search in the top-right of the Task Bar to find your product by ASIN or SKU.

  3. πŸ–±οΈ Click the Internal Name cell in the row of your product.

  4. ⌨️ Type the name you want.

  5. πŸ–±οΈ Click anywhere outside the cell to save it.

  6. πŸš€ The name will now appear instantly everywhere in SellerLegend.

🐒 Method 2: Using The Orders Screen (Slower)

Use this if you’re already viewing orders and want to nickname a product on the fly.

  1. 🧭 Navigate to:
Main Menu ➜ Sales and Customers ➜ Orders

  2. πŸ”Ž Locate an order with the product you want to rename:

    • Use Omni-Search in the classic (detailed) view.

    • Use the Filter button in the modern view.

  3. πŸ–±οΈ Click the Internal Name cell in that row.

  4. ⌨️ Type your preferred nickname.

  5. πŸ–±οΈ Click outside the box to save it.

  6. πŸ”„ Your name will update everywhere the product appears.

πŸ’‘ Pro Tips

  • πŸ› οΈ You can edit or update Internal Names anytime β€” great for reorganizing product lines.

  • 🧠 Use shortcuts or brand codes if your full product title is too long.

  • 🏷️ Combine with Product Tags to enhance filtering and segmentation.

  • πŸ‘₯ Internal Names are shared across your team β€” everyone benefits from clearer product labels.
