💱 Understanding Exchange Rates in SellerLegend
🧠 Why Currency Conversion Matters
If you sell on multiple Amazon marketplaces, each in its local currency, comparing financial performance can be a headache. SellerLegend simplifies this by letting you view all your sales, costs, and profits in the currency of your choice — no spreadsheets, no mental gymnastics.
Whether you sell in the US, Japan, or across the EU, you can now standardize your reporting into a single base currency (e.g., GBP, USD, EUR) for clearer financial insight and simplified bookkeeping.
🌍 Multi-Marketplace? Unify With Account Groups
Let’s say you live in the UK and sell on the US and Japan marketplaces. Instead of reviewing each one separately in USD and JPY, you can:
-
Create an Account Group named, for example,
Combined US/Japan
. -
Assign a default currency (e.g., GBP) to that Account Group.
-
Use that group in dashboards, reports, and financial screens — and SellerLegend will aggregate the financial data and display it in your preferred currency.

🔍 How SellerLegend Converts Currency
✅ Source of Exchange Rates
SellerLegend retrieves currency conversion rates from the European Central Bank (ECB). Here’s what you should know:
-
Rates refresh every 6 hours.
-
Historical data goes back to January 4, 1999 (inception of the Euro).
-
SellerLegend uses the mid-market rate — the average between a currency’s bid and ask prices.
🔎 This is also known as the interbank or middle rate, and is considered the fairest benchmark rate for conversion.
📅 Date of Rate Used
SellerLegend uses the historical exchange rate for the date of the transaction, not today’s rate. This ensures financial reports remain accurate and free from distortion due to currency fluctuations.
Example:
-
You made a sale on May 7, 2016.
-
SellerLegend will convert that sale using the exchange rate for May 7, 2016 — not today’s rate.
If you’re viewing a date range (e.g., May 1 to May 7), then:
-
Transactions from May 1 are converted at the May 1 rate.
-
Transactions from May 2 are converted at the May 2 rate.
-
…and so on for each day in the range.
⚠️ This per-day historical conversion is essential to preserve the integrity of your financial reporting.
📊 Where to See the Rates Used
You can view all historical currency rates used by SellerLegend in the Foreign Exchange Rates screen. This is accessible by clicking on the Selected Currency button on any screen showing currency data .
This transparency allows you to verify the conversions used for any day and currency pair.
⚠️ Important Notes
-
SellerLegend’s rates are for informational and analytical purposes only.
-
Amazon, your payment processor, or your bank may use different rates for actual financial transactions.
-
Discrepancies between SellerLegend reports and bank deposits are usually due to these differences in applied exchange rates.
